A special intelligence-led operation by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has resulted in the arrest of ten people suspected of trafficking cannabis and cannabis-infused products during student celebrations at Koforidua Technical University (KTU).

The operation was conducted late Friday, July 31, after investigators received information about suspected drug activities on campus during the university’s SRC Week festivities. Nine men and one woman were apprehended.

Authorities seized several items believed to contain cannabis, including packaged quantities of the suspected substance and a range of food and drinks. Among the products confiscated were “abele” ice cream, pineapple juice, sobolo, fresh palm wine and other beverages that investigators suspect had been mixed with cannabis.

According to NACOC, preliminary testing of the confiscated items indicated the presence of cannabis, prompting further investigations into the source and intended distribution of the products.

Officials said all ten suspects are cooperating with investigators while efforts continue to uncover the extent of the alleged operation and trace any additional accomplices.

NACOC stressed that it will continue intensifying efforts to combat the circulation of illegal drugs on school campuses and appealed to students and the general public to promptly report suspected narcotics-related activities.
