MTN Ghana has taken a bold step towards sustainable operations, unveiling its first electric vehicle and solar-powered motorbike at the MTN House headquarters in Accra.
This launch marks the beginning of MTN’s inaugural Sustainability Week, a weeklong celebration themed “Sustainability: Our Collective Responsibility.”
The event underscores MTN’s commitment to embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles across its business, with an array of activities planned, including “Lunch and Learn” sessions, “Eco Talk” forums, and “Bright Conversations” for staff and stakeholders to reflect on MTN’s ESG journey and future roadmap.
MTN’s commitment to sustainability
MTN Ghana’s CEO, Mr. Stephen Blewett, expressed the urgency of sustainable practices, emphasizing the impact on future generations.
“Sustainability is for future generations, and the current generation has a responsibility to care for the environment,” Mr. Blewett stated, calling on MTN staff to adopt practices that would help create a healthier planet.
He encouraged everyone to see their individual actions as steps toward a collective goal of sustainability.
A statement by MTN’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Adwoa Afriyie Wiafe, and Corporate Communications Senior Manager, Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, further affirmed the company’s commitment.
The statement outlined MTN’s efforts to reduce energy consumption, align with the Ambition 2025 Strategic Intent, and meet ESG targets, noting that the Sustainability Week aligns with MTN’s broader goals of creating shared value through responsible practices.
“Our sustainability vision seeks to create shared value for our stakeholders through responsible environmental, social, and governance practices and solutions,” Ms. Wiafe explained.
She emphasized that initiatives like the electric vehicle launch were steps toward fulfilling MTN’s strategic ambitions.
MTN Ghana is dedicated to fostering a sustainable future and enhancing the well-being of society.
