MTN Ghana has hosted the maiden edition of its MTN Digital for Good Masterclass Series under the theme “Empowered Interplanetary Tech and Agriculture.”

The MTN Digital for Good Masterclass Series served as a platform for thought leadership, skill development, and collaboration among innovators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers working to advance Ghana’s digital and agricultural sectors.

Senior Specialist, Marketing at MTN Ghana, Sandra Oduro Antwi, stressed the company’s dedication to leveraging technology as a catalyst for innovation, empowerment, and sustainable progress across Africa.

She said the initiative reflects MTN’s broader vision of becoming the leading digital solutions provider for Africa, fostering creativity, and empowering individuals and enterprises to harness technology for development.

“Our goal is to ensure that this digital revolution becomes a force for empowerment—one that uplifts every innovator, every change leader, and every participant in this digital world,” she said.

She noted that empowerment begins with access to technology, markets, financial tools, and knowledge—and emphasised MTN’s role in equipping young people and innovators with the skills needed to develop impactful solutions.

Through programmes such as MTN E-Learning, MoMo digital finance tools, and technology training initiatives, the company continues to invest in capacity-building and digital inclusion.

“We are nurturing the next generation with the skills and tools to develop solutions that address real-world needs—from e-commerce and fintech to health tech and agritech,” she added.

She underscored the transformative role of digital innovation in agriculture, noting that mobile connectivity and digital payment systems have revolutionised how farmers access markets, information, and financing.

“Digital tools are transforming how farmers operate. Through mobile payments and connectivity, MTN is helping improve productivity and strengthen food security,” she explained.

She stressed that achieving a sustainable digital ecosystem requires strong collaboration between the private sector, policymakers, and innovators.

“Empowerment cannot be achieved alone. It takes collective effort between the private sector, government, and all of us—to drive inclusive growth and lifelong opportunities,” she said.

The Senior Specialist urged participants to embrace technology not only as a business tool but as a means of fairness, creativity, and community development.

“Let us use technology not just for profit, but to create solutions that improve lives, empower communities, and drive national development,” she said.

Cybersecurity

Taking the conversation further, Senior Manager for Enterprise Information Security and Governance at MTN Ghana, Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei, noted the importance of cybersecurity awareness and data protection as the digital ecosystem evolves.

“As we become more dependent on mobile phones, the internet, and digital tools, we must also become more vigilant. The risks grow with our increased comfort and connectivity,” she warned.

Jacqueline Hanson-Kotei explained that as individuals and businesses move operations online, the threat of cyberattacks, including phishing, social engineering, and data breaches, continues to rise.

“Every device we use—our phones, laptops, or tablets—holds valuable information. If compromised, it can disrupt businesses, destroy trust, and cause significant financial loss,” she said.

She urged entrepreneurs and organisations to adopt strong cyber hygiene practices, including secure passwords, two-factor authentication, and regular data backups.

“Your cybersecurity is as important as your business strategy. You need to safeguard your data, protect your systems, and train your employees to recognise threats,” she stressed.

She revealed that MTN continues to strengthen its internal systems and enterprise security architecture to safeguard its operations and customers’ data.

“We’re working tirelessly to secure our platforms and enterprise solutions. We encourage all businesses, big or small, to do the same—invest in awareness, policies, and protection,” she said.

She also cautioned that cybersecurity is no longer optional—it is essential for business continuity and national digital resilience.

“The question is not if you’ll be targeted, but when. Preparedness is the best defense,” she added.

By merging technology and innovation, MTN Ghana continues to demonstrate its leadership in building a connected, empowered, and prosperous Africa.
