A lecturer at the Gbewaa College of Education in Pusiga in the Upper East Region, Issaka Abdulai, has died following an alleged assault by military personnel operating in Bawku.

Mr Abdulai, a lecturer in the Science Department of the college, was reportedly assaulted on the night of Friday, September 11, 2026.

In a statement issued on Saturday, September 12, the management of Gbewaa College of Education announced the lecturer’s death and expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“Management is saddened to announce the death of Mr Issaka Abdulai, a lecturer in the Science Department. Mr Issaka Abdulai was beaten to death by the military in Bawku last night,” the statement said.

The college, however, did not provide details of what led to the alleged assault or the specific circumstances that resulted in Mr Abdulai’s death.

Allegedly arrested during curfew

Sources cited by Citi News indicated that Mr Abdulai was allegedly apprehended by military personnel while riding a motorbike during curfew hours.
