Kevin Okyere donates shoes to Ahwerase pupils

The Chief Executive Officer of Springfield Group, Mr Kevin Okyere on Wednesday led a Team made up of Springfield and his Foundation Staff to donate hundreds of shoes to students of selected schools at Ahwerase in the Akuapem South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The team first visited the Ahwerase Presbyterian Primary and KG and fitted every student in the school, starting with the youngest kids in the Kindergarten with a new pair of shoes.

The obviously surprised children could hardly contain their excitement at the prospect of receiving new shoes from the Springfield and KOF team.

In all, the team distributed over 200 shoes to the primary school children.

The team later moved to the Aburi Methodist Primary B and JHS to distribute more shoes to the students in the school.

The excitement among the children was just as evident as it was in the previous school, as the team members interacted with the children while they fitted them with their new footwear.

It rounded up the day’s donation with a similar exercise at the Anglican JHS with over 100 students receiving theirs as well.

Kevin Okyere, in an interview with the media, explained that he and his team at Springfield and KOF “feel like it’s our responsibility to give back to society. So we go to different areas and see what their needs are and here at Ahwerase Presbyterian Primary, the school code for shoes is black, so we decided to bless them with some very durable shoes. The kids are very happy.”

He also said that the team had taken notice of the leaking roofs on the science laboratory as well as a number of classrooms, and would commit to fixing them.

“We’re going to fix all their leaking issues so when it rains, it doesn’t have to interrupt their education,” he said.

He explained the Kevin Okyere Foundation has a plan to develop long term partnerships with beneficiary communities, with the aim of tackling the peculiar issues that plague them.

The headmistress of Ahwerase Presby, Sylvia Attafuah expressed her profound gratitutde to the team for the magnitude of their generosity.

She said, “I knew they were coming to donate [some shoes], but I did not expect that every pupil will receive a pair of shoes. I am overwhelmed, and happy.”

She was optimistic that this donation of shoes could have a positive psychological effect on the pupils and might translate into improved academic performance from some of them.
