Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s former Finance Minister, has been released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody following a court order. The bail bond is believed to have been set at $65,000 by the court that heard the case.

His legal team in Ghana, Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline and Partners (MPOBB), confirmed the release in a statement dated Wednesday, 8 April 2026, and signed by Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo.

According to the statement, Ofori-Atta was freed on 7 April 2026 and has since reunited with his family. It also emphasised his commitment to due process, noting that he intends to fully exercise his constitutional rights under U.S. law.

The statement concluded with appreciation, stating that he and his family are grateful to God and to all who supported them through prayers during the period.

Back in Ghana, Ofori-Atta and five others face more than 70 criminal charges stemming from multiple corruption investigations. Among them are allegations that a contract awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Limited resulted in a financial loss exceeding GH¢1.4 billion to the state.
