High court grants Barker-Vormawor GH₵20,000 Bail

An Accra High Court has granted bail to Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a prominent leader of recent anti-galamsey protests, setting the bail at GH₵20,000 with two sureties.

Charges and legal proceedings
Barker-Vormawor, a lawyer and the Convenor of the Democracy Hub pressure group, is facing multiple charges, including stealing, causing unlawful damage, offensive conduct, assaulting a public officer, and defacing public property.

Bail conditions
As part of the bail conditions, Barker-Vormawor is required to report to the police twice a week.
His legal team had previously made three unsuccessful bail applications in the Circuit Court before securing this High Court bail.

Previous arrests
Barker-Vormawor was arrested along with 52 other protesters for alleged lawlessness during the demonstrations.
Both he and the other protesters have since been granted bail by two different Circuit Courts in Accra.
