Heavy rains that swept across Accra on Monday caused flooding in several parts of the capital, leaving roads submerged, disrupting traffic, and affecting the daily activities of residents and businesses.

Areas including sections of Kaneshie, Circle, Adabraka, Weija, East Legon, and parts of Tema reported varying levels of flooding after hours of continuous rainfall. Motorists were forced to navigate waterlogged roads, while some vehicles stalled in floodwaters, leading to heavy traffic congestion across major routes.

Pedestrians also struggled to move through flooded streets as drains overflowed, with some shops and homes experiencing minor flooding. Emergency services and local authorities urged residents living in flood-prone communities to remain vigilant and avoid crossing fast-moving floodwaters.

The rainfall once again highlighted Accra’s recurring flooding challenges, with blocked drains and poor waste disposal contributing to the rapid accumulation of water in several communities.

The Ghana Meteorological Agency has advised the public to expect intermittent rains during the season and urged residents to stay updated on weather forecasts. Authorities also encouraged the public to report blocked drains and avoid dumping refuse into waterways to reduce the risk of flooding.

No casualties had been officially reported at the time of publication, although assessments were ongoing in the affected communities.
