Haaland hails Semenyo as ‘perfect Premier League player’
Antoine Semenyo
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has praised Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo, describing him as the “perfect Premier League player” and highlighting his physicality and all-round qualities.
Haaland made the remarks about his City teammate in a documentary posted on his YouTube channel, reflecting on the qualities that have made Semenyo an important part of the club’s attack.
Semenyo joined Manchester City from AFC Bournemouth during the January transfer window of the 2025/26 season and quickly established a strong attacking partnership with Haaland.
The understanding between the two forwards proved influential as City secured the Carabao Cup and FA Cup last season, with their combination providing an important threat in the final third.
“This guy Antoine; tough guy. He’s the perfect Premier League player, physical; just the whole total package, a bit like me,” Haaland said.
Goals underline attacking partnership
The praise from Haaland comes after both forwards enjoyed impressive campaigns in the Premier League.
Semenyo finished the league season with 17 goals, while Haaland scored 27, with the pair subsequently named in the Premier League Team of the Year.
Haaland’s goalscoring exploits earned him the Premier League Golden Boot, while both players were nominated for the Player of the Year award.
Semenyo’s rapid adaptation to life at Manchester City has further enhanced his reputation as one of Ghana’s leading attacking talents, while his partnership with Haaland has given the English champions another potent attacking combination.
For Haaland, Semenyo’s strength, physical presence and versatility make him particularly well suited to the demands of English football.
The Norwegian striker’s comparison of the Ghanaian forward to himself also underlines the growing confidence in Semenyo’s ability to compete and excel at the highest level of the Premier League.
