The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has established an investigative team to probe incidents of tax and duty evasion, allegedly facilitated by some Customs officers.
This move follows the release of an investigative documentary by Joy FM titled “Porous Borders,” which highlights the security vulnerabilities at Ghana’s Eastern and Western borders.
The GRA’s investigative team has been tasked with identifying staff involved in the alleged acts of bribery, investigating specific incidents, and assessing security weaknesses at the border points mentioned in the documentary.
In a statement, the GRA expressed gratitude to Joy FM for their investigative work and assured the trading community and the general public that information on the outcomes of the investigation and any resulting sanctions would be provided.
The Authority reiterated its commitment to its core mandate of mobilizing revenue for national development.
