The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrissu, has declared that government will reintroduce Parent-Teacher Associations back into the nation’s education management structure.
This, he said will “enable parents and teachers to work together to improve learning outcomes in our educational institutions”
He also said that this will allow PTAs to support in the production of what he termed “quality human capital”.
He made this declaration at the launch of the Okaikwei South Public Schools Renovation Project in Accra on Thursday.
Haruna Iddrissu also announced that a National Standardised Test is set to be introduced for pupils in Primary Classes two, four, six and second year Junior High School (JHS) students.
He explained that these tests are meant to prepare Ghanaian public pupils for the Basic Certificate Education Examination (BECE).
He said, “you don’t want to train a child that the only time he’s told to write exams is ‘prepare for BECE and go and get ready for BECE’, when the child has never gone through the psychological environment of an examination room. Therefore, we intend to introduce these NSTs which will introduce these children to the world of an examination tomorrow, as part of our improvement of quality assessment in Ghana.”
The Member of Parliament for the Okaikwei South Constituency, Ernest Adomako, revealed that the Public Schools Improvement Project will improve infrastructure across 20 public schools in the constituency, and will cost over GH¢79.5 million, funded through his personal resources and the support of corporate and private donors.
It is expected that this project will affect the lives of over 8000 pupils and 300 teachers positively.
Speaking on the project, the MP said, we are not just fixing schools, we are building a brighter and prosperous future for the next generation of leaders, innovators and change makers.”
