The government has approved a two-month payment schedule for salary and allowance arrears owed to staff of the Judicial Service and members of the Lower Court Bench following the implementation of their revised conditions of service.

According to a letter signed by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, the arrears will be paid in November and December 2026, covering the period from January to October 2026.

Under the approved arrangement, payments in November will cover five months of arrears, from January to May 2026, while the December payment will settle arrears for June to October 2026.

The letter, addressed to the Controller and Accountant-General, follows earlier correspondence from the Ministry of Finance dated October 28, 2026, concerning the review of salaries and allowances for the two groups.

The government said the approval was in line with its resolve not to allow arrears to accumulate.

The revised conditions of service were approved by President John Dramani Mahama pursuant to Article 149 of the 1992 Constitution, with implementation taking effect from January 1, 2026.

The Controller and Accountant-General has been directed to give effect to the approval and ensure the scheduled payments are made.

Copies of the correspondence have also been sent to the Chief Justice, the Deputy Minister of Finance, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Finance, the Auditor-General, the Director of PFM-Compliance at the Ministry of Finance, and the Judicial Secretary.

The payment arrangement is expected to facilitate the settlement of outstanding salary and allowance arrears for Judicial Service staff and members of the Lower Court Bench within the two-month period.
