Ghana has secured the right to host the 70th Session of the United Nations Tourism Commission for Africa (CAF) in 2027, following a successful bid presented during the 69th CAF meeting held in Seychelles.

The high-profile continental event will coincide with Ghana’s 70th Independence Anniversary, creating a significant opportunity for the country to showcase its achievements in tourism, culture and the creative arts. The conference is expected to attract tourism ministers, government officials, policymakers, industry leaders and other key stakeholders from across Africa.

Hosting the session will allow Ghana to highlight its rich cultural heritage, vibrant creative arts industry, warm hospitality and diverse tourism attractions. From historic heritage sites and wildlife reserves to festivals and cultural experiences, the country aims to demonstrate why it remains one of Africa’s leading travel destinations.

The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, led Ghana’s successful bid and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to using tourism as a catalyst for sustainable development, economic growth, cultural exchange and stronger regional cooperation.

She emphasised the importance of collaboration in advancing Africa’s tourism sector and unlocking new opportunities for investment and innovation.

Winning the hosting rights further strengthens Ghana’s reputation as a preferred destination for heritage, cultural and diaspora tourism. It also offers the country an international platform to promote its tourism, culture and creative arts industries while encouraging partnerships among African nations.

The 70th UN Tourism Commission for Africa Session is expected to enhance Ghana’s visibility on the global tourism stage, boost visitor arrivals and stimulate economic activity.
