FC Basel donate football kits to Upper West schools, clubs

FC Basel football kits

Swiss Super League giants FC Basel have donated football kits and training equipment to colts football clubs, women’s teams and educational institutions across the Upper West Region as part of efforts to support grassroots football development in Ghana.

The donation, which included jerseys, socks, training wear and tracksuits, is expected to provide much-needed equipment for young footballers and teams, particularly those operating at the community and school levels.

The items were presented on behalf of the Swiss club by Joy Sports Lead Sports Editor, Fentuo Tahiru, in an initiative facilitated by football agent Alex Acquaye through his working relationship with FC Basel.

The gesture marks the second consecutive year that FC Basel has donated football equipment to beneficiaries in Ghana, following a similar initiative in 2025.

Schools and clubs benefit

Among the educational institutions that received equipment were Tumu Senior High Technical School, St. Clare’s Technical and Vocational Institute, Vamboi Basic School and Bandei Basic School.

Football clubs and teams that benefited included Chiewie Ladies, Soccer Babies Football Club, Kulfuo Dreams FC, Malima FC, Kong Danger Stars and Hilla Stars.

The beneficiaries are expected to use the equipment for training and competitive activities, helping to address one of the persistent challenges facing grassroots football — inadequate access to quality playing and training gear.

Supporting grassroots development

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to create better conditions for young players to develop their football skills and participate meaningfully in organised competitions.

For many community-based clubs and school teams, access to football kits and training equipment remains a challenge, with players and organisers often relying on limited resources to sustain their programmes.

The latest donation is therefore expected to ease some of the logistical pressures on the beneficiary institutions and teams while encouraging more young people to participate in football.

FC Basel, one of Switzerland’s most successful football clubs, has a long-standing reputation for developing young talent and investing in football development.

The club’s continued support for grassroots football initiatives in Ghana also provides an opportunity for young players and institutions in underserved communities to gain access to resources that can enhance their training and development.

The latest intervention builds on the club’s 2025 donation and reinforces the growing relationship between FC Basel and football development initiatives in Ghana.
