Controversial preacher Osofo Kumchacha has claimed that dating is sweeter than marriage, pointing to the stark difference in how some men treat their partners before and after tying the knot.

According to the preacher, men often go to greater lengths to take their girlfriends to social events while dating, only for their behaviour to shift once the relationship becomes a marriage.

“As for me, Osofo Kumchacha, I speak facts and the public don’t like people like us. They will just attack you and make all claims that you aren’t from God or not a true man of God but I don’t care about that. I will speak my mind,” he said.

He explained that during the dating phase, a man may regularly accompany his partner to weddings, funeral services, parties and other social gatherings, eager to show her off. Once married, however, the dynamic can change, with some husbands restricting their wives from going out.

“This is why I know dating is sweeter than marriage. As a young lady in a relationship with a man, he will take you for weddings, funeral services, parties and other social gatherings. He always wants to show off but the moment he marries you, everything changes,” he said.

Kumchacha noted that some women grow unhappy when their husbands stop taking them out after marriage, especially as they compare their current situation with the treatment they received while dating.

“There are men who have married for just five years and turned their wives into ‘house arrest’. Every time, the woman is home because right after marriage, the man decides not to be taking her out,” he added.

He further observed that some men will date a woman for several years and take her everywhere, only to leave her at home once they are married.

“A man can date a woman for five years, seven years, 10 years and go everywhere with her but as soon as they get married, he abandons the woman at home,” he said.

Drawing on these observations, the preacher maintained that he would choose dating over marriage if asked which of the two is sweeter.

“So I sit here, if you ask me, I will say dating is sweeter than marriage,” he said.

Kumchacha’s remarks are likely to fuel further debate about the shifts that can occur in relationships once couples move from dating to marriage.
