Bishop Salifu Amoako, wife arrested over fatal East Legon accident

The Ghana Police Service has arrested Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and his wife Mouha Amoako, parents of 16-year-old suspect driver Elrad Salifu Amoako, following a fatal accident at East Legon on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
The accident claimed the lives of two young girls, aged 12.

Investigation into tragic accident
According to a police statement, investigations have established that on the day of the accident, Elrad was driving a Jaguar SUV with one other passenger.
The vehicle collided with a 4×4 Acura, driven by Joseph Ackah, which had four other occupants.
The crash occurred on Mensah Wood Street in East Legon, and both vehicles caught fire, burning beyond recognition.
Three of the five victims in the Acura were rescued, but two young girls, Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh, tragically lost their lives.
Two other rescued victims sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged, while a third remains hospitalized.

Parents in custody
The parents of the suspect driver, Elisha and Mouha Amoako, are currently in custody assisting with investigations.
The police are working to determine the full circumstances of the accident, including how the 16-year-old came to be driving the vehicle.

Police visit to bereaved family
In the wake of the tragedy, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, along with a team from the Police Management Board, visited the bereaved family to offer their condolences.
The police also visited the injured victims who are still receiving medical attention.
The Ghana Police Service assured the public of a thorough investigation to bring closure to the affected family during this difficult time, as they continue to be remembered in prayers.
