Armed men in military uniforms join land guards to demolish properties at Tse Addo

In a despicable midnight operation, heavily armed men dressed in military uniforms and some land guards defied a court injunction to demolish properties belonging to Intatec Iconic Enterprise Limited on a piece of land at Tse Addo in Accra.
The incident, which occurred around 1:00 a.m. on January 12, 2025, saw properties razed to the ground and some set ablaze.

Allegations of theft and high-level backing
Eric Nyarko, Operations Manager of Intatec Iconic Enterprise Limited, alleged that during the demolition, the armed men dressed in military uniforms and the land guards took away motorbikes and construction materials from the site.
He also accused the perpetrators of acting under the influence of “high authorities” who issued threats to intimidate the company.
Mr. Nyarko revealed that a formal complaint has been lodged with the police, expressing hope that the authorities would identify and prosecute those responsible for the illegal act.

Violation of court injunction
The demolition is particularly troubling as it occurred despite an ongoing legal dispute over the land.
Mr. Nyarko stated that the company holds valid title certificates to the property, which it acquired in 2014 along with its assets and liabilities.
He added that the company has been abiding by a court injunction issued by an Accra High Court, which restrains all parties involved from any development or activity on the land until the legal case is resolved.
“The company has fully respected the injunction and halted all development on the land,” Mr. Nyarko emphasized.
The action is a blatant disregard for the rule of law, a dangerous precedent that undermines public trust in law enforcement and the judiciary.

Call for accountability
Intatec Iconic Enterprise Limited has called on the police administration and relevant government authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly.
The company is demanding accountability for the persons involved and the alleged theft of its property.

A test for the rule of law
The incident has sparked outrage among citizens and stakeholders, highlighting the need for stronger safeguards to uphold judicial authority and prevent abuses of power.
For many, this case is a test of Ghana’s commitment to the rule of law and the protection of private property.
The outcome could have far-reaching implications for governance, property rights, and public confidence in state institutions.
