Speaking to residents during a yesterday, 2025, the President assured the people of his unwavering resolve to address the insecurity and fear that have gripped the region.
“During the campaign, I stated that if God granted our desire and I was elected president, bringing peace to Bawku was going to be one of my number one priorities,” President Mahama declared. “Today marks exactly one week since my swearing-in, and my first major assignment outside Accra is to assure you that we are working diligently to bring peace back to Bawku.”

Acknowledging the hardship of the people
President Mahama expressed empathy for the hardships endured by the people of Bawku over the past three years, acknowledging the stress and fear that have characterized their daily lives. Reflecting on his previous tenure, he reminded residents of the peace and stability Bawku enjoyed under his administration, a period during which the town and its surrounding areas thrived.
“My government is determined to restore that period of calm,” he said, adding that the lessons learned from past successes would guide current efforts to address the conflict.

Strengthening security for peace
To expedite the peace process, President Mahama revealed that appointments for key ministerial and security positions would be finalized within the week.
These roles include the Minister of Defense, Minister of Interior, National Security Advisor, National Security Coordinator, and Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
“These appointments will ensure that we have ministers and officials responsible for security to take charge of the situation in Bawku,” he explained.
“Once these appointments are made, I will charge them to make Bawku one of their top priorities.”
The President appealed to the residents for patience and restraint as his administration takes deliberate steps to resolve the situation.
“I am fully apprised of the issues, and I am committed to dealing with them. Trust in myself and this administration, and by the grace of God, peace will be restored permanently to Bawku,” he assured.

Commending security services
Ahead of his visit to Bawku, President Mahama met with the heads of the various security services in Accra, commending them for their role in ensuring a smooth election.
However, he reminded them of the persistent security threats Ghana faces, particularly chieftaincy disputes and the risk of terrorist incursions in the northern regions.

“The threats we face demand continued vigilance,” President Mahama said.
“As we establish the governing councils for all security services, I urge you not to rest on your oars but to work collaboratively to safeguard the nation.”

A call for unity and patience
President Mahama’s visit to Bawku and his appeal for cooperation highlight his administration’s focus on peacebuilding and reconciliation.
As his government takes steps to stabilize the region, his message to the people is clear: “Together, with patience and unity, we can bring back the peace and stability Bawku needs to thrive.”
The President’s dedication to this mission reflects his broader vision for a united and secure Ghana, where regional disputes are resolved through diplomacy and inclusive governance.
