The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has commenced the disbursement of an additional GH₵402 million to healthcare facilities across Ghana.
According to a statement from the NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, this payment covers vetted claims for June and July 2024, aligning with the Authority’s three-month reimbursement policy.
Public health facilities received GH₵223.9 million, representing 56.03% of the total, while private health facilities were allocated GH₵106.5 million, accounting for 26.64%.
Quasi-public and mission health facilities also received substantial allocations.
This payment brings the NHIA’s recent total disbursement to GH₵800 million, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining the sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and supporting healthcare providers.
The NHIA’s regular disbursements are part of its strategy to ensure timely payments, enhancing the delivery of healthcare services.
The NHIS Benefit Package covers over 95% of disease conditions and includes more than 550 approved medications.
The NHIA acknowledged the dedication of healthcare providers and remains committed to working collaboratively to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.
In August 2024, the NHIA had released GH₵151 million to settle claims from March and April 2024, preceded by a GH₵135.6 million payment in July for claims up to February 2024.
