New Leadership, Renewed CommitmentThe Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has officially welcomed Adam Mutawakilu as the Acting Managing Director, pending approval by the Board in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
In his inaugural address to staff, Mutawakilu reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that every community, regardless of its location, has access to clean and reliable water supply.
Ensuring no community is left behind
Mutawakilu acknowledged the significant role GWL plays in providing uninterrupted water supply to all Ghanaians.
He stressed that his leadership would focus on bridging the gap between urban and rural communities to ensure equitable access to potable water.
“The provision of water is not just a service but a necessity for life. My priority is to work closely with management and staff to implement strategies that guarantee every community, especially underserved and unserved areas, has access to safe drinking water,” he assured.
He further emphasized that while his expertise lies in energy, finance, and governance, he is eager to learn from and collaborate with water sector professionals to achieve the government’s vision for universal water access.
A wealth of experience to drive change
Mutawakilu’s background in governance, finance, and policy-making uniquely positions him to lead GWL’s efforts in improving water distribution across Ghana.
He holds an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Ghana and an MSc in Energy Economics from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). ]
Additionally, he pursued an MPhil in Petroleum and Oil Studies at the University of Cape Coast and earned a Commonwealth Executive Master’s in Business Administration from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
His professional career includes serving as the first Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency from 2013 to 2020, where he also held the position of Ranking Member on the Mines and Energy Committee.
Prior to that, he was the District Chief Executive for the West Gonja District and Head of Treasury at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Central Administration.
Strengthening water service delivery
Under Mutawakilu’s leadership, Ghana Water Limited aims to implement innovative solutions to enhance service delivery and meet the increasing demand for potable water.
As the company works toward fulfilling its mandate, GWL has pledged its full support for Mutawakilu’s leadership and the government’s broader vision for the water sector.
Stakeholders and the general public anticipate significant improvements in water accessibility and reliability across the country, as Mutawakilu embarks on his mission to ensure no community is left behind.
