Kwahu Omanhene refutes destoolment claims

The Office of the Omanhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area has strongly denied claims that Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, the Kwahumanhene, has been destooled, labeling such reports as false and unfounded.

Destoolment video dismissed as fake
In recent days, a video allegedly showing the destoolment process of the Kwahumanhene has been circulating across social media platforms and WhatsApp groups.
According to a statement from the Omanhene’s office, the video is “false and contrary to both legal standards and Kwahu customs,” and should not be taken as a legitimate representation of any events involving Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II.

Allegations of extortion
The controversy surrounding the Kwahumanhene began with allegations of extortion and misconduct during his tenure as the Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).
A customer of the bank, Collins Darkwa, filed a petition accusing Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II of extorting GH₵2 million in exchange for facilitating a GH₵12 million loan.
Following these allegations, the Bank of Ghana directed Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong to resign from his position as Board Chairman, citing reputational concerns for the bank.
However, the statement from the Omanhene’s office clarifies that no formal charges have been brought against the Kwahumanhene to justify any action towards his destoolment.

No misconduct proven
The statement further highlighted that the Kwahumanhene had not been found liable for any misconduct related to his role at ADB.
It also raised concerns over the lack of due process in the Bank of Ghana’s request for his resignation, pointing out that Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong was not given an opportunity to respond to the allegations.
In the interest of resolving the matter properly, the Kwahumanhene chose to step aside from his role at ADB.

Calls for calm
Despite his decision to temporarily step aside, the misleading video suggesting his destoolment has caused concern within the Kwahu community.
The Office of the Omanhene has urged the public to remain calm and continue to support the Paramountcy, reassuring them that the Kwahumanhene remains committed to serving Kwahuman.
The statement also emphasized that individuals seeking to tarnish the reputation of Kwahuman and its leader without allowing for proper legal or traditional hearings should not be tolerated.

Reaffirming dedication to Kwahuman
In closing, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to serving Kwahuman and protecting the integrity of their heritage.
His office made it clear that any further attempts to damage his reputation through false information will be met with legal action.
The Kwahu Traditional Council stands united behind its leader, calling for unity and vigilance in preserving the dignity of the Kwahu Paramountcy amid these baseless accusations.
