Recent demographics indicate that an overwhelming majority of the country’s population are youth, underscoring the imperativeness of political parties deploying innovative ideas to attract young people, particularly first time voters who mostly fall within the ‘Gen Z’ bracket. It is against this backdrop that Sammy Awuku and Anthony Karbo who previously served the New Patriotic Party as National Youth Organizers, led a group of influential young politicians and socialites to launch the Boys Boys Movement to set the pace for retail campaigns by various volunteer groups of the Party.
Subsequently, NPP Sweepers, a volunteer group of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), comprising young professionals in various fields, students and party faithfuls, embarked on a retail street campaign on 11th September 2024, as part of efforts to project the Bawumia-Napo ticket in the lead up to the 2024 general elections.
The group campaigned in some principal streets of Accra, particularly along the Madina to 37 Military Hospital road.
Members of NPP Sweepers numbering over three hundred (300), painted the Madina to 37 Hospital stretch with NPP colours and placards. Some of the campaign messages the group projected include 307 Ambulances, Deployment of 50,000 street cameras to enhance security, credible credit scoring system, Free SHS, No Betting Tax, Free Tertiary Education for Persons With Disabilities, Agenda 111 Hospitals, Drone for Medical Deliveries, Training 1 Million Youth in Digital Skills, and Flat Rate Tax policy amongst others.
Also in attendance were Hon. Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Sammy Awuku, Director General of National Lotteries Authority, Nana Appiah, CEO of State Housing Corporation, Anthony Karbo, Special Aide to Dr. Bawumia, Amma Frimpomaa, Managing Director of SIC Life Savings, Isaac Jay-Hyde, Deputy National Youth Organizar, Sandra Sarkodie, Deputy National Youth Organizer and Loans and Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia 2024 Campaign.
it is expected that various volunteer and youth groups in the NPP will own the retail campaign, enhance the electoral fortunes of the NPP and put the Bawumia-Napo ticket in pole position to secure victory on 7th December 2024.
