The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has filed the Party’s presidential nomination forms on behalf of its flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama.
The Party Chairman submitted the nomination forms at the Electoral Commission’s head office at around 2:00 PM, accompanied by Mr. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the NDC; Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections for the NDC; and other Party stalwarts.
Mrs. Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, received the NDC’s nomination forms on behalf of the Commission.
Mr. Nketia expressed “serious concerns” over the credibility of the voters’ register and urged the EC to ensure that electoral processes remain free and fair.
He mentioned that the recent illegal transfer of voters undermined the credibility of the voters’ register, stating that the NDC “will not sleep on our rights.”
Mr. Nketia reiterated the NDC’s call for an independent forensic audit of the Information Technology systems of the EC to verify the credibility of the register and eliminate doubts. He announced that the NDC would embark on a nationwide demonstration against the EC to demand an independent forensic audit of its IT systems and to advocate for free, fair, and credible elections.
“We will descend on the EC offices, and we in Accra will descend on the EC head office and present further petitions as to why we believe the Commission should conduct itself in a manner that guarantees peaceful, free, and fair elections,” Mr. Nketia said.
The EC is receiving nomination forms from presidential aspirants from Monday, September 9 to Friday, September 13, 2024.
Mrs. Mensa said the EC had constituted two teams to scrutinize and review the documents of the presidential aspirants to ensure they meet the key requirements.
She assured the NDC that the teams would “get to work immediately” and provide feedback to the flagbearer in the “shortest possible time.”
