United Party leader Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has praised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for making progress in stabilising Ghana’s economy, but says the real test lies in its ability to sustain those gains.

Speaking on Channel One TV on Monday, September 21, 2026, Kyerematen said improvements in key economic indicators were encouraging but should not, on their own, be considered the definitive measure of the government’s economic performance.

He maintained that the sustainability of the progress achieved so far would ultimately provide a stronger measure of the government’s economic management.

“If you ask me about my own assessment of what the NDC and President John Dramani Mahama have done, I would say, generally, they have done well, particularly stabilising the macroeconomy. The question we need to ask is whether they can sustain the progress that has been made.

“I think that is a very important material question. Success is good and is very important but the real litmus test of success is when you are able to sustain it. So the question we need to ask can they sustain what they have done?”

According to Mr Kyerematen, while short-term improvements in the macroeconomy are significant, lasting stability will depend on the government putting in place policies and systems that can preserve the gains over time.
