Ahiagbah: Volta grabs 134 schools, over 40 health facilities, others

The government has made significant strides in educational and healthcare development in the Volta Region, advancing infrastructure and improving essential services in local communities.
Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, shared these updates during a press conference in Ho.

Progress in education
Out of 134 initiated classroom projects across the Volta Region, 92 have been completed and are in use, while the remaining 42 are nearing completion.
Additionally, 54 rural telephony projects were initiated to boost connectivity; 52 of these are now operational, improving access to communication and quality of life in rural areas.
In the education sector, Mr. Ahiagbah praised the Free Senior High School (FSHS) policy, which has led to a 35.1% increase in student enrollment in the region.
He noted the impact of the policy on easing financial burdens, especially for families of female students, empowering them to pursue higher education.
“The Free SHS policy has been transformative for the Volta Region, lifting financial constraints that previously prevented many families from sending their children to school, especially girls,” he stated.

A focus on Agenda 111
Under the government’s Agenda 111 project, seven new hospitals are under construction in Adaklu Waya, Kpetoe, Anloga-Agortoe, Ve-Agbome, Ave Dakpa, Dzolokpuita, and Kpeve. Ahiagbah highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding healthcare access, marking these projects as “a historic investment in health infrastructure in the Volta Region.”
This effort, alongside the newly completed Ketu North Municipal Hospital in Weta, brings the total of secondary hospital projects in the region to eight.
Additionally, 30 Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds have been initiated, with 18 completed and operational, while the remaining 12 are near completion.
Two new disease control and isolation centers in Ketu South and Keta have also been established to address health emergencies, enhancing healthcare preparedness in the region.

Economic impact and future development
Mr. Ahiagbah projected that the Agenda 111 initiative would generate 68,000 direct jobs and potentially over 70,000 indirect jobs nationwide, with the Volta Region benefiting significantly from these opportunities.
He urged residents to consider these developments as critical to the region’s growth, warning that abandoning these projects would halt progress and jeopardize employment opportunities.
Highlighting the NPP’s commitment to continuity, he stated, “We cannot allow this to happen when we have the power to stop it by voting for the NPP to ensure continuity.”
