Ghanaian sprinter Isaac Botsio has brought a remarkable collegiate career at West Texas A&M University to a close as a seven-time NCAA Division II national champion, cementing his status as one of the country’s outstanding sprint talents.

Botsio’s defining achievement was his unprecedented three consecutive NCAA Division II Outdoor 100-metre titles between 2024 and 2026, a feat that underlined his consistency and dominance at the collegiate level.

His championship run began in 2024 when he clocked 9.98 seconds to win his first outdoor national title and, in the process, became a sub-10-second sprinter.

He successfully defended the title in 2025 with an improved time of 9.94 seconds before completing the three-peat in 2026, winning the final in 10.07 seconds.

The three outdoor 100m championships formed part of a broader record of success that had already established Botsio as a leading NCAA Division II sprinter.

Seven national titles

Botsio’s first NCAA national championship came in 2023 when he won the Division II Indoor 60m title in 6.62 seconds.

That same year, he finished runner-up in the outdoor 100m final after recording 10.03 seconds, setting the stage for his subsequent dominance in the event.

He also played a key role in West Texas A&M’s success in the 4×100m relay, helping the university win three consecutive NCAA Division II national titles between 2023 and 2025.

His seven national championships therefore comprise the 2023 Indoor 60m title, three successive Outdoor 100m championships from 2024 to 2026, and three NCAA Division II 4×100m relay titles from 2023 to 2025.

The achievement reflects not only his individual sprinting ability but also his consistency across different events and his contribution to the university’s relay programme.

International success with Ghana

Botsio’s collegiate achievements have been matched by important contributions to Ghana’s national athletics team.

He represented Ghana in the men’s 4×100m relay at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after helping the country secure qualification at the World Athletics Relays in The Bahamas.

His international record also includes appearances at the World Athletics Championships and a gold medal with Ghana in the 4×100m relay at the 2024 African Championships.

His success at West Texas A&M has therefore developed alongside his role in Ghana’s international relay programme, giving him experience competing at both the collegiate and global levels.

The combination of NCAA championships and national-team duties has required Botsio to maintain high levels of performance while managing international travel, major competitions and the demands of collegiate athletics.

Academic excellence

Botsio also distinguished himself away from the track.

In 2025, he was named NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year and earned multiple All-America honours during his collegiate career.

The academic recognition added another dimension to a career characterised by sustained excellence, demonstrating his ability to combine high-level competition with his educational responsibilities.

Botsio leaves West Texas A&M with seven NCAA Division II national championships, including three consecutive Outdoor 100m titles, an Indoor 60m championship and three 4×100m relay crowns.

His collegiate chapter has now closed with a record of sustained individual and team success.

For Ghanaian athletics, however, the end of his NCAA career could mark the beginning of an even bigger international chapter as Botsio turns his attention fully to the next stage of his sprinting career.
