A fire has gutted the boys’ dormitory of Anlo-Afiadenyigba Senior High School in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, destroying the belongings of final-year students.

The incident occurred on Tuesday around 1:00 p.m., burning items such as chop boxes, cash, mobile phones, uniforms and shoes.

According to the Assembly Member for the area, Gabriel Kuatsikor, the fire broke out while students were either in class or writing examinations, leaving many distressed. He said nearby students helped to control the blaze before firefighters arrived.

The Keta-Anloga Ghana National Fire Service and NADMO have launched investigations into the cause of the fire, which remains unknown.

No casualties were recorded, but significant property losses were reported. Authorities say affected students may require psychological support in addition to material assistance.

Kuatsikor noted that the headmaster was away in Accra at the time, while other school officials and emergency responders worked at the scene.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Wisdom Seade, assured that relief efforts are underway, including the provision of mattresses and mosquito nets, while further support will be coordinated through regional and national agencies.

Students have appealed for public support to replace lost items and avoid disruption to their academic work as investigations continue.
