A 40-year-old fashion designer identified as Gideon Doe Adifu from Agbedrafor in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for defiling and impregnating his 14-year-old biological daughter.
The Sogakope Circuit Court, presided over by Joseph Nadaado, handed Adifu a 10-year sentence for defilement and an additional five years for incest. Both sentences will run concurrently.
Presenting the facts of the case on Monday, January 12, Detective Chief Inspector Haruna Doho of the Akatsi Police Command said the offender, who lived with the victim and his wife at Akatsi Kpotame, had been abusing the child since 2022.
According to the prosecution, the convict’s wife—who is the complainant—noticed that their daughter was pregnant. After questioning her, the girl disclosed the abuse. The matter was subsequently reported to the police.
A medical examination confirmed that the child had been abused and was 17 weeks pregnant, leading to Adifu’s arrest.
Investigations further revealed that the abuse began in 2022 at Akatsi Zuta before the family relocated to Kpotame-Akatsi in 2024, where he continued the offence whenever other relatives were away.
Chief Inspector Doho told the court that Adifu admitted to the crime during interrogation and pleaded guilty. The judge, after reviewing the case, convicted and sentenced him accordingly.
