The Accra Regional Police Command, working in close collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has arrested seven members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate believed to be behind a series of violent robberies across the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions.

The breakthrough follows an armed robbery attack on a residence at Peduase in Aburi on November 29, 2025, where the suspects allegedly made away with mobile phones, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of cash while wielding firearms.

According to the police, intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of one suspect, Kofi Ishmael, on January 6, 2026, at Avenor in Accra.

During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in the robbery and identified Kwame Bediako, popularly known as “Star Boy,” as the ringleader of the gang.

Subsequently, police arrested Bediako at Ablekuma Agape, where a search of his residence led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun concealed in a fence wall, along with four BB cartridges. Bediako also admitted his involvement in several robbery cases, police said.

Further investigations revealed that the syndicate had been responsible for multiple highway robberies targeting motorists and trailer drivers along major routes, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw, and the Juaso–Kumasi stretch.

The suspects reportedly disclosed that they were preparing to embark on another robbery at the time of their arrest.

The seven suspects currently in police custody include Salia Mohammed, alias Kwaku Nuah (27); Kofi Ishmael, also known as Ishmael Addo and Kofi Ketewa (32); Kwame Bediako, alias Star Boy and Nkokorpor, identified as the ringleader; Kwadwo Kalovi, alias Aticho; Mumuni Abdul Razak, alias Mogambo (39); Kwasi Akambuley, alias Kwasi Fresh (27); and Kwame Bonsu, alias Killer Ntua.

One of the suspects is currently on admission, receiving medical attention, while investigations continue to track down other accomplices who remain at large.

Police have also linked the group to several previous robbery cases, including attacks on market women and motorists, as well as a fatal robbery incident in which a driver lost his life. Some of the suspects are reported to have jumped bail in earlier cases that are still pending before the courts.

Exhibits retrieved so far include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones, and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime.

In a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, the Ghana Police Service assured the public of its commitment to dealing decisively with criminal activities and urged anyone with information that could assist ongoing investigations to report it to the nearest police station.
