The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has reaffirmed the country’s continued engagement in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States of America, to confront the persistent threat of terrorist and violent extremism.

According to the Ministry, this collaboration has recently contributed to precision air strikes against identified terrorist targets in parts of Nigeria’s North West, underscoring the growing effectiveness of coordinated counter-terrorism efforts.

The cooperation is anchored in established international practice and bilateral understandings that prioritise intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and operational support.

The Ministry emphasised that all forms of collaboration are conducted in full compliance with international law and with due respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty.

These engagements are guided by a shared commitment to regional and global security, as well as mutual respect between partner nations.

Nigeria reiterated that the protection of civilian lives remains central to all counter-terrorism operations. The Federal Government stressed that safeguarding national unity and upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens—regardless of faith, ethnicity, or background—are fundamental principles guiding security actions.

Terrorist violence in any form, whether targeted at Christians, Muslims, or other communities, was described as an affront to Nigeria’s core values and a threat to international peace and security.

The government further noted that it continues to work closely with its partners through established diplomatic and security channels to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats.

At the same time, Nigeria is strengthening its own security institutions and intelligence capabilities to ensure long-term national resilience against extremism.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured the public that it will maintain engagement with relevant international partners and provide updates through appropriate official channels as efforts to combat terrorism continue.
