The woman captured in a viral social media video assaulting a man has been arrested by the police.
Although some social media users claim the incident was staged, the police say their investigations point in a different direction.
As a result, the Inspector General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team has taken both the woman and the man seen in the video into custody.
The woman, identified by police as Esther Nana Afia Sarfowaa, was arrested at Subriso in the Ahafo Ano North Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
A second suspect, Stephen Ofori, was also arrested at Nkawie in the Ashanti Region for his role in the incident.
Both suspects are currently in police custody as officers continue efforts to apprehend three additional suspects, who are reportedly on the run.
On Tuesday, November 17, 2025, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service arrested a man seen in a viral Facebook video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife in Ofankor, Ga East Municipality.
The suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, was taken into custody on Monday, November 17, 2025, at his family’s residence following widespread public outrage over the disturbing video where he assaulted his wife.
According to a statement from the CID signed by Public Relations Officer Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, two of the suspects’ siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, were also arrested.
The two allegedly tried to attack a female tenant who was suspected of recording and sharing the video online.
Police intervened promptly to protect the tenant and ensure her safety.
The CID further confirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate the victim, who reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.
