The Tamale High Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange, has nullified the parliamentary election results for the Kpandai constituency and ordered a fresh poll within 30 days after upholding a petition challenging the outcome.

The petition was brought by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who argued that the December 7, 2024 election was tainted by significant irregularities in Kpandai.

He cited discrepancies in Form 8A—commonly known as the pink sheet—from 41 of the 152 polling stations, insisting that the violations breached Regulations 39 and 43 of the Public Elections Regulations (CI 127).

In its ruling, the court found that the Electoral Commission’s non-compliance with the required procedures substantially compromised the integrity of the election.

It therefore directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a complete rerun of the parliamentary contest across the constituency.

The incumbent MP, Matthew Nyindam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had initially been declared the winner of the December vote.

Election day tensions escalated at the collation centre following allegations of vote manipulation by NDC supporters.

Reports emerged of biometric verification devices (BVRs) being removed, ballot papers destroyed, and security personnel deployed to quell the disturbances.

Delivering his judgment, Justice Plange underscored the importance of the Electoral Commission restoring public trust by ensuring that the rerun is transparent, credible, and conducted strictly in accordance with electoral regulations.
