The narcotics, seized in 2022 as part of a case involving suspects Yao Kwadwo and two others, were burned on Monday, November 17, at the Klefe dumping site in Ho.

The exercise, which began at 2:30 pm and concluded around 10:30 pm, was supervised by representatives from the judiciary, the Narcotics Control Commission, the Environmental Protection Authority, and state attorneys.

The Police emphasised that the burning was conducted under strict supervision from the Police, National Security, and the media.

The operation forms part of a broader national effort to clamp down on illicit drug cultivation, trafficking, and distribution. Law enforcement agencies say the seized cannabis came from multiple raids in known cultivation hotspots as well as from intercepted shipments on major transport routes.

A police officer noted that the GH¢4.2 billion valuation represents the street value of the substances and highlights the scale of the illegal trade.

The police have urged the public to continue supporting the fight against illegal drugs by providing credible information to assist security agencies in their operations.
