In a thrilling finale on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Mfantsipim School successfully defended its crown, emerging champions of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Their win marks another chapter in the school’s rich legacy of academic excellence.

The final contest brought together three of Ghana’s academic powerhouses: Mfantsipim School (the defending champion), St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) and Opoku Ware School (OWASS).

All three schools entered the competition with storied histories in the NSMQ, making this final particularly anticipated.

The four-time champions, Botwe Boys, defeated Augusco and OWASS with 56 points.

Their back-to-back success underlines a culture of sustained intellectual preparation and the importance of mentorship, teamwork and consistent training.

Mfantsipim had earlier secured their place in the grand finale with a strong semi-final performance, scoring 42 points ahead of their opponents.

From the outset, the Mfantsipim team showed poise under pressure and precision in their responses. Their strategy was clear — build an early lead, stay consistent, and close out strongly in the final rounds. The grand finale breakdown shows how they built their momentum.

Round 5

In the GOIL Super Bonanza and riddles, Mfantsipim sealed the NSMQ with a total of 56 points, Augusco with 42, and OWASS with 29 points.

True or False questions, Mfantsipim widened their lead with 56 points, followed by Augusco with 42, and OWASS with 29 points.

Round 3

Round 3, which is the problem of the day, ended with Mfantsipim in the lead with 30 points, followed by Augusco’s 29 points and OWASS WITH 19 points.

Round 2

At the end of the speed race in round 2, Augusco was leading with 27 points, as against Mfantsipim’s 24 points and that of OWASS with 17 points.

Round 1

Round 1 ended with OWASS and Augusco both at 17 points, with Mfantsipim at 20 points.

With this victory, Mfantsipim School further cements its position among Ghana’s finest in science and mathematics competitions.

For the contenders — St. Augustine’s College and Opoku Ware School — the final provides both lessons and motivation. They return to their regions with proud records and will no doubt regroup, train harder, and aim for the top spot in the next edition.

The 2025 NSMQ will be remembered as a showcase of academic brilliance, fierce rivalry and the triumph of preparation. Mfantsipim School’s victory is well-deserved.
