A VIP transport bus travelling along the Accra–Kumasi highway was on Monday, November 3, 2025, completely destroyed by fire after passengers reportedly heard an explosion from the rear of the vehicle.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that smoke began to billow from the back of the bus moments before flames engulfed the entire vehicle, forcing the driver to bring it to an urgent halt.

Passengers quickly disembarked as the fire intensified, leaving the bus in ruins. Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

“We heard a loud blast from behind, and suddenly, smoke started coming out. The driver stopped immediately and asked everyone to get out. Within minutes, the whole bus was on fire,” one witness recounted.

Items, including luggage and personal belongings, were lost in the blaze.

The cause of the fire of the VIP bus on the Accra-Kumasi highway is yet to be established, though preliminary suspicions point to a possible mechanical or electrical fault.

Fire service personnel were called to the scene to extinguish the flames and ensure the safe passage of other road users.

Traffic slowed briefly along the stretch as emergency services dealt with the situation.

Transport authorities are expected to investigate the incident to determine the exact cause and ensure compliance with vehicle safety standards.
