MTN Ghana has schooled its staff on cybersecurity to strengthen their ability to combat digital fraud and cybercrime.

Mr Prince Owusu-Nyarko, Regional Senior Manager for MTN Ghana’s South-West Business District, cautioned staff about the increasing dangers on the internet.

He urged them to remain vigilant and mindful of their online behaviour, emphasising that some actions, though seemingly harmless, could have negative implications for the company.

“This sensitisation is crucial because it helps staff avoid becoming victims of online fraud. Security starts with us. To protect our customers, we must first empower ourselves,” he said.

Mr Owusu-Nyarko further encouraged the employees to adhere strictly to MTN’s cybersecurity policies to ensure safe digital practices and safeguard both corporate and personal data.

The training formed part of activities marking Cybersecurity Awareness Month.

Mr Maxwell Acquah, MTN’s Acting Technical Manager for the Western Region, also described cybersecurity as a shared responsibility, noting that as digital activity grew, so does the risk of cybercrime.

“Cybersecurity is not an individual problem-it requires a collective effort. That is why MTN continues to build awareness among its staff,” he stated, advising participants to be wary of downloading free applications from untrusted sources.

Some participants expressed satisfaction with the training, saying it had opened their eyes to online safety measures and the importance of being cautious about the information they shared on the internet.

“We feel more empowered and better informed about how to protect ourselves and our data online,” one participant said.

The workshop, on the theme: “Be Cyber Smart, Be Cyber Safe,” sought to equip employees with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves, customers, and the company’s digital infrastructure from rising online threats.
