President John Dramani Mahama has launched the Ghana Infrastructure Plan (GIP), which encapsulates Ghana’s long-term vision and strategic direction for infrastructure development and provides the physical manifestation of social and economic ideals.

The development of a well-planned and adequately maintained world-class network of infrastructure is critical for Ghana’s quest to become a solidly developed country by its centenary year of 2057.

The launch of the GIP, which is under the auspices of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) took place on Wednesday, October 22, in Accra.

President Mahama, in his address, said the Ghana Infrastructure Plan was initially completed in 2016, and it was revised in 2019, but it was shelved and left to gather dust for years.

“Today, we reaffirm this position as the essential framework for national transformation.” The President said.

“It is therefore with great pride that I officially launch the Ghana Infrastructure Plan, not as a new idea, but as a renewed commitment to the promise of a sustainable and inclusive infrastructure development for all Ghanaians.”

President Mahama said Ghana’s founding President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, gave them the blueprint.

He said the Ghana Infrastructure Plan provided the Government with the tools, and a Big Push would deliver the results.

“Let us not just build roads and bridges, but a Ghana that works for everyone. A Ghana where vision meets discipline, and where continuity, transparency, and innovation illuminate the path to a shared future.” President Mahama said.

He announced at the event a national competition in collaboration with the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) for the best artistic interpretation of the cover design for the Ghana Vision 2057.

He reiterated that the Ghana Vision 2057 was a roadmap for economic transformation and shared prosperity.

“So this competition encourages our youth to envision the Ghana of the future, a nation of innovation, of dignity, and shared prosperity,” he said.

“This competition will be advertised, and I encourage all our young people to join in the competition. The prizes are attractive.”

The first prize is GHS100,000.00, and the second prize is GHS75,000.00.

Whereas the third prize is GHS50,000.00.

“So let us make this more than just a competition or a contest. Let it be an act of civic imagination,” he said.
