Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, begin an ambitious nationwide grassroots tour covering all 276 constituencies — a decisive step in his bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general elections.

The tour, officially launching his campaign for the NPP’s presidential candidacy, marks a significant shift in strategy: one that seeks to engage the party’s grassroots directly rather than rely solely on top-down campaign structures.

According to his campaign team, the initiative aims to foster “direct and personal engagement” with the party faithful who form the foundation of the NPP’s electoral strength.

During the tour, Dr. Bawumia is expected to meet with Polling Station and Electoral Area Coordinators, Constituency Executives (both current and former), ex-Members of Parliament, former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), as well as members of the Party’s Council of Elders and Patrons.

A statement issued by the Bawumia Campaign and signed by its Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, described the tour as a demonstration of the Vice-President’s “commitment to listening, building consensus, and strengthening the Party’s foundation from the ground up.”

It added that Dr. Bawumia would use the engagements to share his vision for the NPP and mobilize a united front ahead of the 2028 polls.

Call for decency in campaign

The launch of the tour came with a strong appeal for civility and issue-based campaigning within the party.

The Bawumia team expressed concern about the rising incidence of personal attacks, insults, and misinformation among supporters of rival aspirants, warning that such behavior undermines the NPP’s unity and values.

In a directive to his supporters, the campaign ordered all communicators and affiliates to immediately “cease and desist” from engaging in insults or unsubstantiated attacks on other aspirants and their teams.

“Our focus must remain on promoting Dr. Bawumia’s vision, proven track record, and policy propositions,” the statement said. “We urge all supporters to base their arguments on verifiable facts and comparative analysis of ideas.”

The campaign outlined three key principles: to avoid personal attacks, to communicate using factual and policy-based arguments, and to uphold the dignity of the NPP by fostering internal cohesion.

By launching his campaign with an emphasis on civility and inclusivity, Dr. Bawumia is positioning himself not only as a frontrunner but as a unifier seeking to elevate the quality of political discourse within the NPP.

The campaign expressed confidence that, when discussions are grounded in issues, “his qualifications, experience, and transformative ideas will resonate decisively with delegates.”

As the tour begins, attention will now turn to whether Dr. Bawumia’s message of unity and issue-based campaigning will resonate across the constituencies—and whether his hands-on grassroots strategy will translate into a commanding lead in what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive internal contests in the NPP’s history.
