The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to begin the vetting of five presidential aspirants seeking to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.

The exercise will see all hopefuls appearing before the party’s Vetting Committee to justify their readiness, competence, and eligibility to contest for the flagbearership position.

The vetting process is a crucial stage in the build-up to the primaries, aimed at ensuring that all aspirants meet the requirements set out in the party’s constitution.

It also offers the committee an opportunity to assess the vision, message, and leadership qualities of each contender.

The aspirants, who have already picked and submitted their nomination forms, are expected to present their credentials, political experience, and plans for the party should they win the mandate.

The process opened with the vetting of former NPP General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong, and is expected to conclude today with all five aspirants.

The others are former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

Party General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, noted that the NPP remains committed to a transparent and fair process that will ultimately strengthen internal democracy. He assured members and supporters that the committee will discharge its duties impartially.

The vetting is expected to generate keen public interest, as the party’s choice of flagbearer could significantly shape the political landscape heading into the 2028 elections.

The NPP is scheduled to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, after which the elected candidate will officially lead the party’s campaign into the national polls.
