Kaeme, Ghana’s pioneering clean beauty brand, and Bohten, a global African eyewear company, are joining forces this World Sight Day, October 9, 2025, to launch an initiative that goes beyond raising awareness.

Together, the two brands will provide free eye screenings, prescription eyewear, protective wellness kits, and education on eye and skin health to the community of Juaso in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

The initiative addresses urgent health challenges linked to mining and pollution while expanding on Kaeme’s ongoing work in Juaso, where women have already been empowered with black soap–making skills to build sustainable livelihoods.

By adding vision care and wellness education on 2025 World Sight Day, Kaeme and Bohten are advancing health and economic resilience in a single stride.

Juaso, historically known for farming, has seen livelihoods threatened by years of illegal mining—locally called galamsey—that has left residents vulnerable to dust-related eye and skin conditions.

Kaeme responded with the Kaeme Juaso Initiative, equipping women with soap-making skills to create alternative income streams as agriculture declined.

“For us at Kaeme, impact must be tangible. It’s not enough to speak about empowerment; we want to measure it, to see women earn, communities thrive, and families live healthier lives. By pairing Bohten’s expertise in eye care with Kaeme’s community roots and wellness solutions, we are giving Juaso more than services; we are giving them tools for dignity and self-reliance,” said Freda Obeng-Ampofo, founder of Kaeme.

Co-founder of Bohten, Nana Boaten Osei, added, “Our vision is simple: to create eyewear that empowers people and protects the planet. Partnering with Kaeme allows us to deliver vision care to communities that need it most, while reinforcing the belief that African brands can lead with purpose and drive real social change.”

The outreach will include:

  • Free eye screenings by licensed optometrists provided by Bohten
  • Prescription glasses and eyewear solutions for women, men, and children
  • Protective wellness kits (eye and skin care) distributed by Kaeme and Bohten
  • Community workshops on the health impact of mining and strategies for resilience
  • Skills reinforcement to help women sustain income through soap-making and wellness activities
