University of Health and Allied Sciences renamed after Professor Atta Mills

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho will now be known as the Professor John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences.

This announcement was made on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, during the inauguration of the university’s new Governing Council at the Ministry.

According to the Ministry, the renaming honours the late President John Evans Atta Mills, recognising his pivotal role in founding the university and his lasting dedication to advancing health and education in Ghana.

University of Health and Allied Sciences renamed after Professor Atta Mills

Chair of the Governing Council, Professor Kodzo Gavua, expressed support for the decision and reaffirmed the university’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and national development.

Now bearing the name of President Mills, the institution continues to stand as a premier center for training skilled health professionals for Ghana and the wider region.

The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) was established by an Act of Parliament (Act 828 in December, 2011) and is envisioned to become a pre-eminent research and practically oriented health educational institution dedicated to community service.
