7 dead in fatal accident on Kumasi-Accra highway

A devastating accident on Friday, October 11, claimed the lives of seven people and left several others injured after a head-on collision between a VIP bus and a Sprinter bus at Atwedie, near Juaso, on the Kumasi-Accra highway.
The Sprinter bus, with registration number AS 6413-16, was traveling from Accra to Kumasi, while the VIP bus, with registration number AC 1550-17, was en route to Accra from the northern part of Ghana when the accident occurred.
The collision, which happened in the early hours of the day, resulted in the immediate deaths of five passengers aboard the Sprinter bus, which was transporting tomatoes.

Fatalities and injuries
Among the casualties was one passenger from the VIP bus, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Juaso Government Hospital for treatment. Tragically, another passenger succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to seven.

Rescue efforts and aftermath
Firefighters responded to the scene, working to recover the bodies trapped in the wrecked vehicles.
Asante Akyem Fire Station Assistant Officer John Boakye confirmed the incident, stating that all potential fire hazards at the scene had been neutralized.
Injured passengers were rushed to Konongo Government Hospital for medical treatment, while the deceased were transported to the Steward Mortuary in Yawkwei for identification and further procedures
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but the crash has once again highlighted the dangers on the Kumasi-Accra highway, where head-on collisions have claimed numerous lives over the years.
