A domestic disagreement over dinner turned tragic in Maamaso, near New Abirem, when a 29-year-old man was allegedly stabbed by his 21-year-old wife during a heated argument about food.
The suspect, identified only as Maafua, is currently in police custody after reportedly attacking her husband, identified as Kofi, following a dispute over the evening’s meal. The incident occurred in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.
According to reports by Adom TV on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, Kofi sustained severe stab wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred to the Koforidua Government Hospital for further care.
Police sources say Maafua has provided a statement recounting the events that led to the altercation. She claimed the misunderstanding began when Kofi gave her money to prepare his preferred dish — banku and okro stew. However, Maafua stated that the money was insufficient for the ingredients, prompting her to make light soup instead.
When Kofi returned home and discovered that the meal had been changed, he confronted his wife, questioning her decision. The argument quickly escalated into a violent confrontation.
Maafua alleged that during the scuffle, Kofi picked up a knife, which she managed to snatch from him before using it to stab him in self-defense.
However, this version of events has been disputed by an eyewitness, Atta Mallam, who claimed Maafua acted deliberately. Kofi’s brother, Francis, who was nearby, rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion and helped transport his injured brother to the hospital.
Police in Maamaso have since launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the fight and verify the conflicting accounts.
