An escort convoy of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) protecting civilians came under attack in Binduri on Monday, April 27, 2026, leaving at least 10 people dead.

The convoy, which was transporting about 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga, was ambushed by unknown gunmen who opened fire on the military personnel and those under their protection.

According to the GAF, three civilians were killed during the assault, while one other person sustained injuries.

Military forces responded swiftly, engaging the attackers and successfully repelling the assault.

In the exchange, seven of the assailants were killed.

A follow-up operation led to the recovery of a G3 automatic rifle, two loaded magazines, and 176 rounds of ammunition from a suspect who reportedly fled into a mosque.

Security personnel have since arrested 10 additional suspects, who are currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Ghana Armed Forces has urged the public to refrain from interfering with security operations as efforts continue to stabilise the area. Authorities also extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
