The legal team of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has successfully met all bail conditions set by the court following his recent arrest and appearance.
Wontumi’s lawyers confirmed that they had fulfilled all bail requirements, allowing the influential political figure.
But a pending court motion is reportedly preventing his immediate release.
Lead counsel Andy Appiah-Kubi assured party supporters and the public that Chairman Wontumi was in good health and stable condition while in custody.
He told the media that “He [Wontumi] is good, he is healthy, and there is nothing to worry about,” he said and called for calm among supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This comes after Abetifi Member of Parliament and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, intervened to secure the necessary documentation to satisfy the bail terms.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Tuesday, shortly after departing the CID headquarters in Accra. His arrest has sparked widespread criticism from within the NPP.
He remained in custody after failing to meet the bail requirement of GH¢50 million with two justified sureties, amid reports of deteriorating health.
However, a swelling crowd of supporters from the NPP gathered at the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) headquarters in Accra, demanding the immediate release of Chairman Wontumi.
