The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for candidates who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school candidates in 2025.
According to the Council, the results of school candidates will be dispatched to their respective schools through the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Directors of Education. Candidates who wish to access their results online can do so via the WAEC website at www.waecgh.org.
Examination statistics
This year, a total of 603,328 candidates from 20,395 schools sat for the examination, comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females. The figure also included 72 visually impaired candidates, 239 hearing-impaired candidates, and 161 candidates with other special needs.
The exams were conducted at 2,237 centres nationwide, with 2,526 candidates absent.
Examination malpractices
Following investigations into various irregularities detected during the conduct of the exams and the marking of scripts, the 36th meeting of the final awards and examiners’ appointment committee, held on Friday, August 15, 2025, approved several sanctions. These include:
Cancellation of the subject results of 718 candidates
Cancellation of the results of 177 candidates
Withholding of the subject results of 1,240 candidates
Withholding of the entire results of 93 candidates
Additionally, the subject results of some candidates from 119 schools have been cancelled, while results from 87 schools have been withheld for further scrutiny.
WAEC stated that the withheld results may either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of ongoing investigations, which are expected to conclude by September 6, 2025.
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld are advised to visit the Council’s website and navigate to the withheld/cancelled results section for further details.
Heads of schools and proprietors may also use their results listing logins to check the status of affected candidates.
Caution against fraudsters
WAEC has cautioned candidates, parents, and guardians against engaging with fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee. The Council emphasised that its results are secured and verifiable, and therefore cannot be altered.
Appreciation
In its closing remarks, WAEC expressed its gratitude to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators, examiners, and all stakeholders who contributed to the smooth conduct of the 2025 BECE.
