The Volta Regional branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG), has successfully commissioned 21 distribution transformers to provide electricity to 24 newly electrified communities under the Self-Help Electrification Project (SHEP) in the Dambai District.
The move forms part of ECG’s continued efforts to enhance access to reliable and safe electricity for underserved communities across the region.
The commissioned transformers include 16 units, ranging from 33kV, 50kVA to 200kVA, and 5 units of 33kV, 200kVA capacity, totalling a total investment of about six million Ghana Cedis.
Beneficiary communities include Adorkope Odumase, Kotokugye, Pumpi, Abongo, Olugu, Adinakope, Abongo Akura, Afada, Aglakope, Kpogede, Napoa, Asubin, Nanso Alavanyo, Sokukope, Nornukope, Kpevekope, Akokrowa, Betinase, Alarmblow, Nanso, and Tamanja, among others.
At the commissioning ceremony, Madam Irene Mary Odame, District Manager for Dambai, urged residents to engage with ECG offices whenever they encounter electrical issues promptly.
Regional Engineer Ing. Godfred Gyansah Awuku highlighted the importance of the installations, explaining that they are designed to provide light to the communities and boost economic development in the newly connected areas.
In her remarks, the Regional General Manager, Ms. Christina Jatoe-Kaleo, emphasized ECG’s commitment to collaborating with the Ministry of Energy to extend electricity access to communities. She encouraged residents to pay their electricity bills promptly using the ECG PowerApp and cautioned them to stay alert against mobile money fraudsters posing as ECG agents.
The commissioning marks a significant milestone in ECG’s rural electrification agenda and hopes for improved social and economic development in the beneficiary communities.
