Vivo Energy renovates 9-seater toilet facility at La Enobal Basic School

Vivo Energy Ghana, the exclusive distributor of Shell fuel products in Ghana, has officially handed over a newly renovated nine-seater toilet facility to the La Enobal Basic School in Labone. This intervention comes as a response to an appeal made by the school and local government authorities last year to address critical sanitation challenges.

Modern features for enhanced hygiene
The upgraded facility features a five-seater section for females, complete with three handwashing basins, and a four-seater section for males with three urinals.
To ensure user privacy and comfort, a covered entrance has been added, along with windows to provide maximum ventilation.
A significant improvement is the replacement of the dangerous pit latrine, which previously posed a severe risk to the students, with modern water closet systems that adhere to current hygiene standards.

Support from local authorities
Habiba Kotoma, the Education Director of the La Dade-Kotopong Municipal Assembly, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Vivo Energy for the thoughtful gesture.
She noted that poor sanitation had long been a major challenge for the school, particularly impacting female students.
“The old facility was a danger and a death trap,” Kotoma remarked. She further pledged to oversee the maintenance of the newly refurbished facility to ensure its longevity.

Commitment to community development
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Kilai Muasya, Finance Manager at Vivo Energy, emphasized the company’s commitment to uplifting communities.
“By providing La Enobal with a modern washroom facility, we aim to enhance sanitation standards for the students and staff,” he stated.
Muasya highlighted that the project aligns with Vivo Energy’s philosophy of achieving excellence not only in its industry but also in addressing the social and developmental needs of the communities it serves.
He added that the initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all.

Call for ownership and maintenance
Muasya urged school authorities to take ownership of the facility and ensure it is regularly cleaned and well-maintained.
This, he noted, would sustain the benefits of the investment and guarantee a healthier environment for future generations.

With this renovation, Vivo Energy has set an example of how corporate social responsibility can create meaningful and lasting impacts in local communities.
