Veteran actor William Addo, popularly known as ‘Akpatse’ of GTV Thursday Theatre fame, has died.
The popular star of the 1990s and 2000s died on November 22, 2025, after years of battling serious health challenges.
William Addo shot to fame through the popular TV Theatre series on GTV and has starred in numerous Ghanaian movies like Death After Birth, Chronicles of Odumkrom: The Headmaster, and Children of the Mountain.
He attended the University of Ghana, where he obtained a degree in Drama and Theatre Studies and was retained as a teaching assistant because of his performance.
He had a scholarship to study at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom, where he obtained his master’s degree in Theatre Studies, majoring in Acting and Directing.
He came back to be a lecturer where he was in charge of the Theatre Arts Department of the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana.
Subsequently, he was transferred to the National Theatre, where he oversaw concert party productions.
The veteran actor went blind after having two surgeries in 2016 in an attempt to save his eyes from glaucoma and cataracts, which have rendered him immobile.
