The Western North Regional Police Command has apprehended two members of staff from the Sefwi Bekwai STEM Senior High School in Awaso, following the discovery of a large quantity of stolen food items intended for students, following a tip-off.

The suspects, identified as school matron, Bennedicta Nyamadi, and cook, Rahel Kyeremateng, were taken into custody on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

The arrests followed a report made to the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive, Sebastian Obeng, on the evening of Monday, December 22, 2025, regarding suspicious activities involving school property.

A joint operation was subsequently launched involving the Ghana Police Service, the Municipal Chief Executive, and the Member of Parliament for the area, Bright Asamoah Brefo.

The team conducted a search at the private residence of Rahel Kyeremateng in Sefwi Atronsu, where they uncovered a substantial stockpile of provisions, including twenty-one 50kg bags of rice, four sacks of gari, two sacks of maize, one and a half bags of millet, and one bag of sugar.

Additionally, officers secured three bags of beans, forty large tins of tomato paste, four cartons of milk, six gallons of cooking oil, and fifty-four tins of canned mackerel. Preliminary police investigations suggest that the suspects conspired to remove the supplies from the school’s food store.

The items were allegedly being held at the residence with the intent of onward sale on the open market.

During the initial interrogation, Kyeremateng implicated Nyamadi as the individual responsible for providing the items, which led to Nyamadi’s arrest on the school grounds.

The police statement noted that a third individual, who is the assistant matron, Hannah Dufie, is also suspected of involvement in the conspiracy.

She remains at large, and police have intensified efforts to locate her. The total monetary value of the recovered goods is currently being assessed as part of the ongoing investigation.
